Official Birthday of HM The Queen

Following are photographs taken at our luncheon held to celebrate HM's Official Birthday on Saturday 12 June.  We were delighted by the turnout on a gloriously sunny day when we hosted 95 Members and guests to a 3-course luncheon at a restaurant a short distance from the town of Javea on the Costa Blanca, Spain.  We also held a raffle that raised about €400 for Branch funds

Auld Enemies..... New Friends....

Branch Chairman, Bob Hunt writes....... "The last time these two men came close to meeting was during the German invasion of the Island of Crete during World War II.  Sid Burrell (on the left of the photo) was serving in the British Army defending the northern area of Crete when Freidrich (Fritz) Jochum (on the right of the photo) was a paratrooper serving as part of the German invasion forces, also in the North of the Island.  Whilst it is highly unlikely that the two actually met during the ensuing battle, they were certainly fighting in the same locations.  As I was personally aware of their respective War histories I arranged, with their agreement, a meeting of between them during HM's Birthday lunch.  I am pleased to say that they immediately struck up a friendship and spent most of the afternoon exchanging memories of their time on Crete".
